Wood floors bring character and style to homes this winter

Creating a warm and inviting home takes care and consideration and the materials you select play a crucial part in the refurbishment and decoration process.  Homes that feel comfortable and inviting throughout the year often use a high percentage of natural products which cool the room in the summer  months yet give warmth and sense of cosiness in the winter.  The backbone to any room is the floor and for centuries the most enduring natural material used for flooring is wood.  Today wood floors have a timeless quality and above all offer a combination of practicality and beauty to both contemporary and classic interiors.    During the winter months wood floors provide a tactile sense of warmth and engineered boards can also be used in conjunction with under floor heating systems making them a good choice for modern homes.  Hand finished rustic oak boards compliment shabby chic style interiors, while ‘washed’ finishes create a clean Nordic look and darker timbers or greys can look dramatic in contemporary living spaces as shown above.  Oak is without a doubt one of the most popular choices and with recent developments in manufacturing and finishing techniques this attractive natural material is now available in variety of colours and grades.    Jeandre du Toit, our Sales Director explains “Our customers often want to find a flooring that combines the traditional quality of wood flooring but with a slightly modern twist.  In response to this we have developed a collection of unique hand finished products including a range of contemporary Oaks, Walnuts and Exotic timbers.  A good example is our Carnaby Engineered Oak boards, these give the warmth of a classic wood floor but with a contemporary finish that can be used with under-floor heating, on stairs, wall cladding and even ceilings.”
