TILE CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Daily Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning your natural stone tiles must be done on a regular basis in order to keep your floor in optimum condition. If maintained properly, your new floor will look beautiful for years to come.

Sweep the tiled floor daily using a broom or dust mop. You may also need to use your vacuum cleaner and an attachment to clean the hard-to-reach spots, but watch out for marks that can be left by faulty vacuum cleaner wheels. Tracked-in gript, dirt, mud, sand or other abrasives will wear down the sealer as well as the surface of the stone.

Place a doormat or create a matt-well at the entrance to your property to reduce the amount of dirt tracked on to the floor. If laying a matt on the stone tiles, choose one that is not rubber-backed, as it may stain the tiles. Shake out the mats on a daily basis to remove the collected dirt.

Mop your floor with a well rung mop, warm water and a pH-natural cleaning solution like Lithofin Easy Care Cleaner. Using a gentle cleaning solution will help remove the dirt that may be left over after you have swept the floor without harming the seal or the stone itself. Don’t use grout cleaner, vinegar, bathroom tub or tile cleaners or any abrasive type of cleaner. They can harm the finish and damage the polish and/or the seal.

After you have used the cleaner, rinse the floor once again with a well rung mop and warm water as the floor finish may look dull once dry. When the rinse water starts to look dirty in the bucket, replace it with fresh water. Use a soft cloth to dry the floor as allowing the floor to air dry may show water streaks.

Spillage Cleaning
Any spillage on the tiles should be quickly removed using a damp cloth. Stubborn marks may be removed using Lithofin Oil-Ex. Sealing your natural stone tiles will help prevent stains but certain substances, such as red wine, can still stain the floor if they are not cleaned up promptly. If a floor has become particularly dirty following some years of use, Lithofin Stainaway may be used to remove grease and grime as well as strip old coats of sealants.

Damaged Areas
Avoid dragging furniture over the floor as it may damage the tiles. Where damage has occurred, the area should be re sealed to prevent further damage.
