WOOD DECKING INSTALLATION TYPES

Screw-down Installation
Although most cladding boards can be fixed with nails, hardwood profiles generally benefit from screws or bolts due to the natural movement of the wood caused by temperature and humidity. Screwing the frame together is a good way to ensure you maintain the strength over a longer period.

Before starting to build the frame the finished level needs to be worked out so the decking can be fitted with a slight fall, about 1 in 100, away from the property. Once the basic frame has been constructed it should be strengthened with cross members to add additional strength. When laying the surface, the key is to keep the wood in as long lengths as possible, and this is best achieved by laying the decking on the frame and marking out the screw lines, then pre-drilling the holes. Finally, using an electric screw driver, secure the decking boards to the frame with decking screws. Nailing the boards to the frame is not recommended as the boards and frame may twist, pulling the nails out and/or loosening the structure.

Clip-down Installation
Clipped down deck fixings are innovative products which hide the fixings between the deck boards, therefore no surface fixing is required. Hidden deck fasteners have changed the way decks are built, the fasteners are easy to install, maintenance free, compatible with any climate and almost invisible from the top or bottom of the deck. Additionally deck fasteners protect the deck by preventing damaging moisture from seeping in. Hidden deck fasteners create smooth and safe decks, making sure there are no nails, or screws interfering with look and beauty of the deck planks. The decking boards are held together by the biscuit fasteners which come in multiple sizes to accommodate any size decking materials.
